유엔 기후변화협약 당사국총회(COP26)’의 준비기간이었던 2021년 가을, 한국의 아트센터 나비와 영국의 워터쉐드는 MZ세대 창작자들의 기후행동 참여를 도모하기 위해 5일간의 온/오프라인 크리에이티브 캠프를 개최하였습니다. 두 지역에 걸쳐 진행되었던 캠프는 부분적으로는 미러링, 부분적으로는 동시간대에 진행되며 시차가 있는 두 지역에서의 아이디어들을 연결지었습니다.

During Autumn 2021 in the run up to COP26, Art Centre Nabi in South Korea and Watershed in the UK hosted a 5-day digital/physical Creative Camp that supported artists from the MZ generation to engage in climate action. Working across two global locations, camp activities ran part-simultaneously and part-mirrored, connecting ideas across unsynchronised time zones.

선정된 두 팀의 한국 참여자들, 곽수아&이찬우와 물살이(박세민&최승희), 그리고 세 명의 영국 참여자들인 헤더 깁슨, 아이네즈 솔로몬-가드너, 톰 포시는 초청 연사와의 아이디어 세션, 워크숍, 아이디어 공유 및 개발 등을 포함한 다양한 활동에 참여하였습니다. 그리고 그 외 아래와 같은 활동들도 진행하였습니다.

Two Korean teams, Sooah Kwak & Chanu Lee and Water Dweller (Syemin Park & Seunghee Choi), and three UK artists Heather Gibson, Inez Solomon-Gardner and Tom Forsey were selected to participate in a series of activities, including inspirational sessions with invited speakers, workshops, ideas sharing and development. They were invited to:

– 세계 온난화와 포스트 코로나 시대의 새로운 세상에 대한 재구상. 온라인과 오프라인, 로컬과 글로벌, 그리고 유토피아와 디스토피아적인 미래 사이에서의 연결점에 대한 탐색.

– REIMAGINE space for a post-Covid, rapidly heating world. Exploring connections between online and physical, local and global, utopian and dystopian futures.

– 인간과 지구의 관계를 변화시키는 과정으로서의 놀이를 위한 탐구.

– EXPLORE play as a process for changing the relationship of people to the planet.

– 다양한 지리적 위치의 관점에서 기후 위기와 그 결과에 대한 이해를 공유하기 위한 초청 전문가 및 그들간의 교류.

– CONNECT with invited practitioners and with each other, to share understanding of the climate crisis and its consequences, from the perspective of differing geographical locations.

– 기후 행동을 도모하고 디지털 영역을 ‘테라포밍’하기 위한 예술적 아이디어 개발.

– DEVELOP artistic ideas to provoke climate action and act to ‘terraform’ a digital landscape.

참여자들은 미세 플라스틱, 책임감, 지구 온난화, 사랑과 같은 주제로 5개의 실험적이고 새로운 작품을 창작하였습니다. 주어진 짧은 시간 내에 만들어진 그들의 작품들은 인류에게 중요한 갈림길에서 기후 변화에 대한 그들 세대의 관점을 공유합니다.

The participants created five brand new experimental works, on themes such as microplastics, responsibilities, global heating, distraction and love. Their works, created in an incredibly short space of time, share the perspectives of their generation on climate change at this critical crossroads for humanity.
