<비논리적인 사랑>은 다양한 생물 종과 물질 간의 연대의 가능성을 실험합니다. 이찬우와 곽수아는 해저 데이터센터에서 출발하여 자연스러운 것과 부자연스러운 것, 인간과 비인간의 이분법을 흐트러뜨리는 공생의 방법을 탐구합니다.
작품은 비논리적인 사랑을 매개로 다양한 행위자가 얽혀있는 공동체를 만드는 것을 목표로 한 프로젝트 그룹의 웹사이트입니다. 퀴어 생태학, 생동하는 물질, 답변-가능성을 중심으로 다양한 사회운동과 비인간과의 대화 시도 방법이 소개됩니다.
Illogical Love experiments with the possibility of solidarity between multiple species and objects. Drawing from underwater datacenters, Chanu Lee and Sooah Kwak explore ways of sympoiesis (the idea that nothing makes itself, nothing is really self-organising) by blurring the duality of natural and unnatural and human and non-human.
Introduced is a fictional project group that proposes to employ its own queerness to reach a community of multiple agents rooted in irrational love. Built around the core concepts of queer ecology, vibrant matter, and response-ability, ways of poetic civil movements and communicating with non-humans are introduced.

인류의 데이터 사용량이 점점 늘어나며 데이터센터를 친환경적이고 효과적으로 운영하는 방법에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있습니다. 그중에서도 마이크로소프트는 지속가능한 데이터센터의 개발을 위해 진행한 ‘프로젝트 나틱(Project Natick)’에서 지역의 신재생에너지를 사용하는 재활용 가능한 해저 데이터센터를 통해 그 현실성과 효과를 확인했습니다.
With humanity’s data usage constantly increasing, ways of sustainable leverage of data are being actively investigated. Among them, Microsoft’s ‘Project Natick’ initiated to understand the feasibility of locally powered and recyclable underwater datacenters, showed sustainable underwater datacenters to be practical.
바닷속에 원기둥 모양의 거대한 고철덩어리가 잠겨있는 모습은 미묘한 불편함을 줍니다. 자연적인 것과 인공적인 것, 살아있는 것과 살아있지 않은 것의 배치는 자연의 공간에 인간이 침범한 듯한 분위기를 자아내면서 동시에 미래의 유토피아처럼 보이기도 합니다. 이러한 모순된 감각에서 출발하여 우리는 해저 데이터센터를 좋고 나쁜 것, 성공적인 것과 실패한 것의 이분법으로 톺아볼 것이 아니라, 자연스러운 것/부자연스러운 것, 살아있는 것/살아있지 않은 것 사이의 분리가 퀴어링 된 환경에서의 공생으로 이해할 것을 요청합니다.
The strange juxtaposition of a huge metal cylinder placed on the seabed looks somewhat intrusive, while also giving a sense of a futuristic utopia. With this paradoxical feeling as our starting point, we suggest that instead of evaluating the project within the dichotomy of good and bad or success and failure, we understand it as a contingent practice of living together where the divide between natural/unnatural, and living/non-living are queered.
프로젝트 그룹 ‘비논리적인 사랑’은 비논리적인 사랑을 매개로 다양한 행위자가 얽혀있는 공동체를 만드는 것을 목표로 하고 있습니다. 비논리적인 사랑의 웹사이트에는 인간과 비인간 사이의 연결성과 비분리성에 대한 인식을 높이기 위한 시위 장면, 육체적 접촉과 음악을 통해 비인간의 응답에 귀기울이는 연습을 하는 시도가 소개됩니다. 여기서 사랑은 시위가 비논리적이더라도, 응답을 듣는 것에 실패하더라도 반복하여 연결을 시도하도록 하는 급진적인 힘입니다. 이 사랑으로 공동체를 되찾고 기후위기를 돌파할 수 있길 바랍니다.
We introduce a project group ‘Illogical Love’ that proposes to employ its own queerness to reach a community of multiple agents rooted in irrational love. Footage of activism aiming to spread awareness on the interconnectedness of humans and non-humans along with attempts of communication with non-humans through physical touch and music are introduced on Illogical Love’s website. Here, love is a radical force that encourages us to re-attempt to connect with non-humans, even if the processes are illogical, and even if we fail to hear a response.
