신두리 해안사구는 바람이 실어 온 모래가 갯벌과 육지로 이동하면서 해안에 형성된 국내 최대 규모의 모래 언덕으로 해양생태계의 완충지이며 다양한 동식물의 서식지이기도 합니다. 또한, 바람과 파도를 막아 주거지와 경작지를 보호하고 식수원을 오염을 막는 자연 방파제 기능을 하고 있습니다. ‘액트제로 사구(ActZero Dune)’에서 방앤리는 해안 개발과 해안 침식으로 점점 그 면적이 줄고 있는 자연과 그로 인해 연쇄적인 위협에 노출된 우리의 환경에 주목합니다.
The Sinduri Coastal Sand Dunes are the largest coastal sand dunes in Korea, formed from the sand driven by the wind along the shore and on to the tidal flats and land. They are home to a variety of flora and fauna. In addition, they act as a natural breakwater that blocks the wind and waves to protect residential areas and agricultural land, and prevent contamination of drinking water sources. In ‘ActZero Dune,’ Bang & Lee draw their attention to the serial threats to the coastal dunes, whose area is gradually decreasing due to coastal development and coastal erosion, and our environment.

사구에서
In the dunes
아름다운 모래의 물결무늬는 희미하다.
부드럽고 고요한
모래들
The ripples in the beautiful sand are faint.
Soft, calm
sands,
한 줌 쥐려 하면 방울처럼 맺힌다.
쉽게 무너지는 언덕의 한
움큼
If you try to grab a handful, they come together as if into
one drop.
A handful of easily crumbling hills.
뿌리 깊은 풀들이 엉켜 바람에 흔들린다.
누워있다가도 다시
일어서는 모래들
Deep-rooted grasses tangle and sway in the wind.
The
sands that had lain down rise up again,
먼바다에서부터 해안을 넘어 알갱이들이 흩날린다.
하나하나
고운 가루는
날 선 언덕과 하늘을 구분하지 않는다.
그
자리에 대신 억새가 눕는다.
Their grains are scattered from the distant sea across the
shore.
The fine specks one by one
Do not distinguish
between the sharp hill and the sky.
The silver grass lies
down to take its place.
모래를 잡고 있는 풀이 말한다.
Holding the sand, the grass speaks.
“걱정마.
발자국은 거기 닿지 않아.”
“Don’t worry.
Footprints don’t reach
there.”
바람은 사구를 매일 보고 싶지만
언제나 마음으로만 걸어야
한다.
The wind wants to see the dunes every day, but

메마른 땅이지만

다시 어울려 살 수 있기를

하늘과 바다 사이
바람과 모래가 만든 풍경 사이
태양이
구름 사이를 비집고 얼굴을 내밀면
모래언덕에도 꽃이 핀다.
Between sky and sea
Among the landscape created by wind
and sand,
When the sun peeks through the clouds and shows
its face
Flowers bloom even on sand dunes.
사구의 밤하늘을 보고 싶지만 그럴 수 없다.
속으로만
그려본다.
I want to see the night sky over the sand dunes, but I
can’t.
I only draw inside.
눈이 부셔 멀어버릴지도 모르는
모래언덕의 모든 것을
기억하는 바람은
살아있는 거대한 생명체가 소멸해 가는 것을
슬퍼한다.
Though it could be dazzled and blinded
The wind remembers
everything about the sand dunes.
It mourns the extinction
of a huge living creature.
